The Importance of Community Service at Saratoga Central Catholic School

OPEN HOUSE MARCH 16, 6-8PM: CLICK TO REGISTER

At Saratoga Central Catholic School (SCC), we believe that serving others is an essential part of a well-rounded education. Our students are encouraged to get involved in community service projects throughout the year, both on and off campus. These opportunities not only help our students to make a difference in the world, but also to develop important life skills and values.

One of the ways that we integrate community service into the curriculum at SCC is in theology class. Starting in sixth grade, students complete 10 hours of community service each school year, and 20 once they reach high school.

In addition to theology class, SCC also encourages students to get involved in community service through extracurricular activities and clubs. Our National Honor Society chapter hosts regular food, toy and blood drives throughout the year, and our student council coordinates service projects to benefit local organizations.

Our annual Hoops for Hope charity basketball tournament is a favorited event by many of our students. Each spring our National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) chapters partner to put on a school wide basketball tournament to raise money for different causes picked by our students.

Perhaps most importantly, community service at SCC is not just about giving back to the community, it’s also about helping our students to grow as individuals. By serving others, our students learn valuable lessons in empathy, compassion, and selflessness. They also learn to appreciate the blessings they have in their own lives and to be grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

We are proud of the impact that our students are making in the world and look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for them to serve others in the future.
