Award-Winning Announcer Tom Durkin Joins Saratoga Central Catholic as Public Speaking Teacher


Saratoga Springs, NY – Saratoga Central Catholic School is thrilled to announce that Tom Durkin, renowned and award-winning Saratoga Race Course announcer, will be joining our faculty as the Public Speaking Basics teacher, a new elective offered by our Business Department.


Tom Durkin is celebrated for his iconic career as a track announcer for the New York Racing Association (NYRA) from 1990 to 2014, captivating audiences at the Saratoga Race Course. He also worked as a sports commentator for ESPN and NBC Sports from 1984 to 2010. Durkin’s distinguished career has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Jockey Club Gold Medal and the Eclipse Award of Merit, honoring his significant contributions to the sport.


Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts from St. Norbert College, Tom Durkin brings a wealth of expertise and a deep passion for public speaking. He is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and inspiring students at SCC to embrace and enjoy the art of public speaking.


The Public Speaking Basics course aims to equip students with essential skills such as structuring and delivering speeches, overcoming stage fright, and engaging with audiences effectively. Through practical exercises and real-world applications, students will gain confidence and proficiency in public speaking, preparing them for future academic and professional success.

You could search the entire country, and not find a better person to give guidance to your students on public speaking.. Tom is a pro, and the students will enjoy his humorous way of sharing his expertise..
