Maria Izzo, a proud alumna of Saratoga Central Catholic Class of 1984, brings a rich history of educational excellence and leadership to her new role. Maria holds a Master of Arts in Education/Liberal Studies from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts in History/Education from Siena College. She also holds a NYS Permanent Certification in Social Studies, Grades 7-12.

Maria began her teaching career in January 1989 as a 5th-grade teacher at St. Peter’s Elementary School. By the fall of 1989, she joined Saratoga Central Catholic, where she has made significant contributions ever since.

Her leadership roles at SCC have been extensive, including serving as Dean of Students from 2014 to 2023, Coordinator of Student Activities, and Social Studies Department Head. She has also chaired subcommittees for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation and the Cognia Accreditation at SCC.

Additionally, she has been recognized with the Diocese of Albany Catholic Schools Service Award for her 25, 30, and 35 years of service.

Beyond her administrative and teaching roles, Maria has served as Coordinator of Alumni Affairs from 1992 to 2023 and coached softball, basketball, and volleyball at SCC. Her volleyball coaching career spanned 34 years, during which she led her teams to four league championships, one finals appearance, and two semifinals appearances in Class C Section 2. As the Mock Trial Coach since 2008, Maria has guided the team to four Saratoga Country Championships, and in 2013, the team won the Regionals and participated in the NYS Mock Trial Tournament in Albany.

"It has been a privilege working closely with these two exceptional educators over the past two years” says Principal Christopher Signor ‘84. “With their administrative assistance, SCC is poised to enter into a new era of major innovations in Catholic identity, curriculum and instruction, student achievement, increased enrollment, and fiscal stability."
